OBAT FAQs
Office-Based Addiction Treatment, also referred to as OBAT, is a program where patients can get treatment for substance use disorders (SUD) in a primary care office setting. Our program, is led by experts in the field and APNs with extensive experience in substance use disorder treatment.
What does the program entail?
The program is a 6 week medically monitored medication and navigation program. Our team works with patients to develop a plan that meets their specific needs. You will receive a weekly prescription from our APNs for 5 weeks. In the 6th week, the APN will re-evaluate your medical situation. If you miss the five weeks window, you cannot complete the 6 weeks program.
What are the treatment options?
Treatment includes medications, such as Buprenorphine, Naloxone or Vivitrol. Depending on the specific situation, some patients may need referrals to an inpatient detox facility, outpatient program or support groups.
Can I do all appointments virtually?
Ideally, we recommend that you come for the first appointment in-person. We will assist you with the forms if you haven’t been able to complete them prior to your appointment. You can complete the forms online and we’ll mail you cups for sample collection, if you prefer a virtual appointment.
Do I have to go off opioids completely?
No, there is a track for medication assistance and prescribed use of Suboxone, but It is very risky to have opioids in your system when you are taking Naloxone or Vivitrol. You may need to be completely clean for a set time period.
What does the program cost?
The program is fully covered by Medicaid
What do I do if I am in crisis and can’t wait for an OBAT appointment?
